Hospital Pump Rental Orange County
Hospital Breast Pump Rental
Hospital pump rentals are an excellent way to meet a newborn’s nutritional needs and still stay within budget. Of course, any nursing mother should weigh the pros and cons of buying versus renting a breast pump, like how long, how often, why and where you plan to have pumping sessions. Any one of those answers can have a big impact on the hospital pump rental or decision. Overall, hospital pump rentals are specifically designed for many users and are built to last years.
Breast pumps are available for rent from hospitals, lactation consultants, medical-supply stores and other facilities. Generally, nursing mothers can expect a “hospital-grade” electric breast pump about the size of a car battery weighing anywhere from 5 to 11 pounds. Hospital Pump Rentals have a more powerful suction than either electric or manual “personal grade” breast pumps. Consider that a baby’s natural sucking rhythm is 40 to 60 cycles per minute or one pull per second or a little less, whereas hospital-grade pump rentals operate at 30 to 50 cycles per minute. As a general rule of thumb, the more suction and releases per minute a pump provides, the better it will be at stimulating milk supply. Most hospital grade pump rentals also have controls that specifically regulate the intensity, rhythm, pressure and suction. A hospital-grade pump rental actually produces the most milk within the shortest amount of time making it ideal for busy mothers. Some mothers report that pumping sessions are drastically reduced or cut in half.
To prevent cross-contamination between users, hospital pump rentals come exclusively equipped with protective barriers. With a breastpump rental, each mother can expect to receive her own special milk collecting kit that attaches to the pump. For sanitary reasons, breast milk only comes in contact with these attachments and not the pump itself.
Besides being “powerhouses” when it comes to pumping breast milk, this may be a perfect option for mothers who are still undecided about breastfeeding. Hospital pump rentals are also a good choice for women whose babies have difficulty latching on, who plan to breastfeed three months or less from home or for those mothers who need to increase their milk supply fast and efficiently.
Breast Pump Safety
According to the FDA and lactation experts, it is never a good idea to share or borrow or purchase a used or pre-owned breast pump. Infections can easily be transmitted to both mom and baby. Breastmilk can carry viruses and bacteria including HIV, hepatitis and cytomegalovirus, a human herpes virus.
Cost of Hospital Pump Rentals
The cost of a hospital pump rental can run anywhere from $1 to $3 a day or $55 for one month. To purchase a personal-use, electric breast pump can run as high as $380. Some facilities may require a security deposit. Some hospitals even offer pump rentals onsite. These are a number of rooms set aside for exclusively pumping and saving breast milk. Often these onsite hospital pump rooms come with storage bottles, labels, and individual storage bins for both refrigerator and freezer.
